Einladung zur Konferenz „VuFind® Leipzig 2024: Future Discoveries“

Seit über einem Jahrzehnt sind Discovery-Systeme die dominierende Technologie, mit der Bibliotheken ihre Bestände durchsuchbar halten und darüber die Informationsbedürfnisse ihrer Nutzenden erfüllen. Diese Systeme wurden kontinuierlich verbessert, um neuen Herausforderungen gerecht zu werden und haben sich zu außerordentlich effektiven Werkzeugen für Forschende, Studierende und die breitere Gemeinschaft entwickelt. Durch den aktuellen Fortschritt im Bereich generativer künstlicher Intelligenz (KI) stellen sich jedoch auch Fragen zum Verhältnis zwischen Discovery-Systemen und KI sowie zu deren Anpassungsfähigkeit, um jenen Ungewissheiten wirksam zu begegnen.

An der Universitätsbibliothek Leipzig setzen wir VuFind® seit Jahren erfolgreich ein und wirken aktiv an dessen Weiterentwicklung mit. Zum zehnjährigen Bestehen der finc-Nutzergemeinschaft freuen wir uns, das deutsche VuFind®-Anwendertreffen, das erstmals 2012 stattfand, wieder aufleben zu lassen. Gleichermaßen holen wir den diesjährigen internationalen VuFind® Summit nach Leipzig – für eine gemeinsame Veranstaltung, die den aktuellen Stand der Discovery-Systeme beleuchtet und ihre Zukunftspotenziale diskutiert.

Wir laden Sie herzlich zu unserer Konferenz „VuFind® Leipzig 2024: Future Discoveries“ vom 30. September bis 1. Oktober 2024 in Leipzig ein! Ziel der Veranstaltung ist es, eine Plattform zu schaffen, die den Austausch über aktuelle Entwicklungen sowie Zukunftsvisionen von Bibliotheks-Tools für das Information Retrieval ermöglicht. Unabhängig davon, ob Sie VuFind®, Primo, Lukida, Blacklight, EDS oder ein anderes Discovery-System einsetzen – wir blicken Ihren Beiträgen und Erkenntnissen gespannt entgegen!

Zudem ist es uns eine besondere Freude, mit Demian Katz den Maintainer und Lead Developer von VuFind® in Person als Moderator der zentralen Programmpunkte des VuFind® Summits begrüßen zu dürfen. Der Call for Papers wird Ende April 2024 veröffentlicht und beinhaltet sowohl Tracks für VuFind® (VuFind®: Summit, VuFind®: Anwendertreffen) als auch für Präsentationen, die sich auf zukünftige Entwicklungen in der Welt der Discovery-Systeme konzentrieren. Die hybride Veranstaltung bietet Ihnen die Möglichkeit, persönlich vor Ort oder virtuell teilzunehmen.

Invitation to Conference “VuFind® Leipzig 2024: Future Discoveries”

For over a decade, discovery systems have been the cornerstone of library technology, fulfilling users‘ information needs by searching through their collections. These systems have undergone continuous enhancement to meet new challenges, transforming into exceptionally effective tools for researchers, students, and the broader community. E.g. with the recent emergence of generative artificial intelligence (AI), questions have arisen regarding the relationship between discovery systems and AI, and how these systems can adapt to address these questions effectively.

At Leipzig University Library, we have a rich history of both utilizing and advancing VuFind®. As we celebrate the ten-year anniversary of the finc community, we are excited to revive the German VuFind®-Anwendertreffen, which we initially launched in 2012. We are delighted to partner with the international VuFind® Summit for an event that will explore the current state of discovery systems and their vast future potentials.

Therefore, we extend a warm invitation to you to attend our conference VuFind® Leipzig 2024: Future Discoveries, scheduled to take place from September 30th to October 1st in Leipzig, Germany. This event aims to provide a platform for sharing the latest developments and future visions for improving library tools for information retrieval. Whether you are utilizing VuFind®, Primo, Lukida, Blacklight, EDS, or any other discovery system, we welcome your insights and contributions.

We are thrilled to announce that Demian Katz, the maintainer and lead developer of VuFind®, will be present to moderate the talks at the VuFind® Summit. The Call for Papers will be released by the end of April 2024, featuring tracks for VuFind® (VuFind®: Summit, VuFind®: Anwendertreffen) and presentations focusing on future discoveries within the realm of library discovery systems. This will be a hybrid event, offering both in-person attendance and virtual participation.
